Introduction
Khatuzeen Center for Women's issues is a women's organization, established May
2000 by three women. Since then the organization has reached out to the
community to raise awareness about women's rights and work as a pressure group
to change the personal statute law and the penal code, so that it can be more
equal for women.
We put out a
monthly women and children's magazine. Through which we deliver our message of
equality for women, encourage tolerance and living together.
Violence
against women and violence in the society is one of the issues that we have
excelled in by raising awareness through our own radio station, "Zeen Radio" and
by giving seminars and work shops on conflict resolutions. We have held many
conferences one of which was a three day conference, under the name of '
empowering women". This conference was very successful; it was attended by more
than 300 women daily. At the end we gave recommendations for change to our
regional government.
We also have
held conferences on child labor and children's literature. To date we visit
primary schools weekly to read children's stories to them and discussed issues
to do with equality, children's rights and non violent activities. The
children's story books were printed with the grant given by OTI. |
